R.O.Y.A.L 2008 Football Tournament

R.O.Y.A.L stands for Riara Organisation for Youth in Active Life. It is a youth network based in Riara Kilimani whose focus is to promote a positive attitude towards life through active involvement in sports and community service.

The Youth Network was established on 20th August, 2005. The football tournament is held annually in August to coincide with the school holiday season.

d Ubuntu Group reaches out to displaced victims:

Tumaini

Following the crisis occasioned by the 2007 General Elections in Kenya, the Investment Group visited Jamhuri Park, a camp for internally displaced victims in Nairobi. Above and beyond the donation of clothes and food, the Group was most privileged to be able to share its time and support with the people at this time. Ubuntu Group is consolidating its financial assistance toward the humanitarian situation through the “Tumaini na Undugu Response championed by Equity Bank, amongst other partners.

Change of Directors

With a focus on growing the Investment Group through the next financial year (2007 - 2008), it was resolved that the group expand its current management base. The new directors strengthen the Group by bringing in a wealth of experience from diverse fields coupled with new ideas, greater networks and more resources.


 

 

 

 

d Group enters Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon - 2007:

StanChart Marathon 2007

The Nairobi Standard Chatered Marathon is part of the Greatest Race On Earth (GROE), which includes four challenging marathons in four exotic cities, others of which include Singapore, Mumbai and Hong Kong.

Over the last four years, Standard Chartered Nairobi International Marathon through the Seeing is believing Initiative has been able to sponsor over 600 cataract operations at Kikuyu Eye Hospital, the largest eye hospital in the region. The event has also involved in the eradication of Trachoma in Ol Malo in Northern Laikipia.

d Gikomba traders grow with Ubuntu microcredit:

The Ubuntu Group, working in partnership with Hekima Self-Help Group (HSHG), expanded its microcredit program to cover new clients from Gikomba, an urban market in Nairobi, Kenya.
With an objective of putting poverty out of business, the microcredit package has been designed to focus solely on poor women in the marketplace. The trader will therefore have access to small credit to build income-generating activities that will eventually benefit their families.

d World Social Forum:

World Social Forum

On November 1st 2006, Ubuntu Investment Group attended a preliminary session of the 7th edition of the World Social Forum. The World Social Forum (WSF) is an annual meeting held by members of the anti-globalisation movement to coordinate world campaigns, share and refine organizing strategies, and inform each other about movements from around the world and their issues.

The main forum was held January 2007, and brought the world to Africa as activists, social movements, networks, coalitions and other progressive forces from Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, Europe and all corners of the African continent converged in Nairobi, Kenya for five days of cultural resistance and celebration.

 


 

dUbuntu Takes Part In Stanchart Marathon:

On 29th October 2006, the Investment Group participated in the Charity Marathon aimed at raising funds for the visually impaired across the country.

The Group’s participation underlined its commitment to bettering the lives of communities and peoples with which it engages and interacts.

The event was marked with the re-launch of the Group Website (www.ubuntugroup.org) and the release of The Group’s Five Year Strategy.
