Our History:

Our History

The Group came together in the third-quarter of 2005 spurred on by an overriding desire among its members to collectively pool their financial resources and invest together in opportunities that were already clearly visible at the time, and that could not be wholly harnessed by one individual.

Above and beyond financial pooling, the founding patrons of The Group aspired also to achieve a sort of coalesce of similar mental thought in finance, business and investments. The business group was seen to provide a desired forum to share and learn from each other.

The first meeting held at a coffee restaurant in the outlying suburbs of Nairobi, brought together several friends linked by a shared high-school past. These three friends were Denis Mutinda, Michael Mugambi, and Mwenda Ntalami. However, the group currently partners with individual investors who desire to engage in the Group's various investments ventures.

Initially operating under the name, Mentors Investment Group (or, fondly christened MIG by The Group members) The Group's first engagement, albeit as a loosely incorporated unit, was in offering a credit scheme to farm produce traders, in return for a steady interest on invested capital. Not less that $650 was injected in this initiative; an amount which has steadily risen since then.

Currently The Group enjoys vast interests in the Capital Markets, Agricultural Sector and Energy Sector.

The Group has not operated without its fair share of problems. Some of these have included the distant-separation of members engaged in offshore ventures, which hinders communication; delays in interest harvesting from investments; and teething problems in modeling coherent Group working structures and operating systems.

Despite this, The Group has remained focused, guided by an overriding passion for investments and commerce. We have been able to navigate through these rough storms by convening meetings regularly; communicating and exchanging ideas as soon as problems arise; and consistently horning structural mechanisms including a concrete 5-Year Strategy plan designed to guide investment decision.

It is the shared belief by the members of The Group that with this common passion for innovative enterprise, we shall rise well above all obstacles to be faced in steering investments in a beautiful continent, pregnant with vast opportunities.

Mentors Investment Group was officially re-named to Ubuntu Investment Group in the first quarter of 2006: this is an effort to bring out its focus on African enterprise and opportunity.
